She has worked at several research centers in the United States, including the International Institute for Health and Human Rights and the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society at the University at Albany, where she participated in several research projects on terrorist organizations' tactics, immigration issues, and refugees. Her research interests focus on terrorism studies, particularly terrorist tactics and their impact on the effectiveness of counter-terrorism policies. This includes the organizational transformation of suicide terrorism, the relationship between terrorism and organized crime, the dissolution and integration of terrorist organizations, and studying emerging threats from the intersections of various national security issues such as terrorism, food security, environmental security, and migration trajectories. Al-Talhi is also interested in the role of women in peace and security operations and as active member in combating extremism and terrorism.
