With a career spanning over three decades, Retired Lieutenant General Dr. Al-Qunayir served in the General Intelligence Presidency from 1978 to 2012, holding various distinguished positions including Commander of the Moral Guidance Institute at Prince Turki Al-Faisal Academy, Director of Special Operations, Director of Strategic Intelligence, Director of Eastern Region Intelligence, Assistant Director General of General Intelligence for Operations Affairs, and Advisor to the Director General of General Intelligence. Alongside his military service, he also contributed as a part-time lecturer at several military colleges. Notably, he was appointed as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) envoy to Yemen from 2014 to 2017.

Dr. Al-Qunayir obtained a fellowship from the National Defense College at Nasser Military Academy in Egypt and earned his Ph.D. in National Strategy. He has enriched his expertise through completing the Staff Course at the Command and Staff College and the Military Information Analysis Course within the Framework of General Strategic Analysis from Germany in 1987. Additionally, he has pursued foundational and advanced courses in intelligence both in Saudi Arabia and the United States​.​
