Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) organized from 3 - 6/ 10 / 2021 in Malé, the capital of the Republic of the Maldives, two workshops as part of the International Program to Combating Extremism and Terrorism, in cooperation with the National Counter-Terrorism Centre ( NCTC) and the Islamic University of the Maldives.
The opening and closing activities of the workshops were attended by Their Excellencies the Minister of Higher Education, the Minister of Culture and Arts, the Vice president of the Islamic University, the Director of Police, the Director of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), and H.E. Mr. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Harfash, the Vice President of NAUSS for External Relations.
150 specialists from security, religious and educational institutions in the Maldives participated in the program.
The first workshop aimed at introducing Islam's position on extremism and terrorism, shedding light on the values of moderation, tolerance, and coexistence, and providing participants with organizations' renewed methods of terrorist recruitment.
The second workshop aimed at raising the participants' capabilities of rehabilitating and reintegrating hose involved in cases of extremism and terrorism, and reviewing the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addressing extremism and terrorism.
The organization of this program springs from the security mission of NAUSS being the academic body of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, and the body entrusted with implementing the academic part of the Arab counter-terrorism strategy , as this is one of the top issues NAUSS is keen to address in a calculated and scientific manner through its academic programs and activities. One of the most prominent efforts NAUSS makes in this field is to develop and enhance Arab international cooperation to combat these crimes, taking advantage of its extensive international partnerships with the various specialized anti-terrorism international organizations and the relevant security services in various countries around world.
