Assistant Expert in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at UNODC ​

 Mr. Ashmawy serves as an Assistant Expert in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at the UNODC Office for the GCC Region in Abu Dhabi. With three years of experience within the United Nations, he has developed a profound understanding of the intricate challenges surrounding crime prevention and criminal justice in the Middle East and the GCC region. .

Mr. Ashmawy brings extensive expertise in project management, research and analysis, and stakeholder engagement to his role. He has been instrumental in orchestrating and executing projects aimed at enhancing access to justice for all individuals. Additionally, he has contributed to the formulation of policies and strategies to combat transnational organized crime. His collaborative efforts have extended to forging partnerships with civil society organizations and government bodies to facilitate knowledge exchange and foster cooperation on pivotal matters pertaining to crime, drugs, and related subjects.

Prior to joining UNODC, Mr. Ashmawy accrued valuable experience as a lawyer, refining his legal expertise and deepening his comprehension of the criminal justice system. This background has proven invaluable in his current capacity, where he collaborates closely with governments, international organizations, and stakeholders to devise and implement impactful criminal justice policies and practices.

Mr. Ashmawy holds a Master's degree in International Business Law and a Bachelor's degree in Law. He is proficient in Arabic, English, and French. ​
