Experts Team on Restorative Justice and Alternative Sanctions​

Objective :

The team will follow up on the adopted recommendations through upcoming and past regional conferences on the topics of restorative justice and the use of non-custodial measures and judgments. Their efforts will be concentrated on achieving the following objectives:

1- Restorative Justice:

-Conducting a comprehensive mapping of existing restorative justice programs and interventions in the Arab region, including those specifically targeting women and children. This includes providing valuable insights and a summary of best practices derived from the region.

-Organizing a regional meeting that serves as a platform for countries implementing restorative justice programs to exchange experiences and share practices.

-Developing practical recommendations for the development and implementation of evidence-based restorative justice programs in Arab countries.


-Creating specialized training modules that cater specifically to restorative justice approaches. 

-Implementing regional-level training activities with a focus on establishing groups of regional expert trainers through a train-the-trainer approach in the field of restorative justice. 

2-Utilization of Alternative Measures:






2-Utilization of Alternative Measures: -Facilitating a regional meeting that promotes the exchange of experiences and practices among countries implementing alternative measures.



 -Reviewing and updating the guide on alternatives to imprisonment in the Arab region. 

-Developing training modules specifically designed for the utilization of alternative measures, with a particular emphasis on gender-responsive approaches.

-Implementing regional-level training activities with a focus on establishing groups of regional expert trainers through a train-the-trainer approach in the field of restorative justice.
