​ Brief Biography​

Dr. Kim is a distinguished professor at NAUSS, previously holding positions as an Assistant Professor at the University of Technology Sydney and the Australian National University in Australia. He brings over 20 years of expertise in the navigation and control of unmanned aerial vehicles. Dr. Kim holds a Ph.D. in Robotics from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2004. He has pioneered work in simultaneous imaging and localization of unmanned aerial vehicles in GPS-denied environments using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). In addition, he is a recipient of prestigious awards including the Charles Sharpe Beecher Prize and the IMechE UK Award for contributions to decentralized data fusion for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles. Moreover, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers, with citations exceeding 3,000, and secured research funding exceeding two million dollars. He was engaged in the organization of the Australasian Conference in Robotics and Automation (ACRA) from 2009 to 2015 and served as associate editor for IEEE/ICRA and IEEE/IROS journals.

Scientific and Professional Experience:

  • Holds a Ph.D. in Robotics from the University of Sydney in 2004.

  • Received Charles Sharpe Beecher Prize and the IMechE UK Award for contributions to decentralized data fusion for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles.

  • Served as director of the Department of Cybersecurity and contributed to research funding exceeding two million dollars, including four ARC Discovery grants (the most prestigious funding scheme in Australia). Published over 100 research articles.

  • Contributed expertise to various international industrial projects, including the BAE Systems project on Multi-UAV Environment for Navigation and Self-Sensing (ANSER), the UK Ministry of Defence project on UAV control and path planning, the DSTG project on Autonomous Amphibious Vehicle (ARGO), and the A*STAR Ground Vehicle Project from Singapore.
