Idea and Establishment

The idea of establishing the University originated during the inaugural conference of Arab Police and Security Leaders in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates, in 1972 A.D./1392 A.H. Subsequently, during the second conference of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC), convened in Baghdad in 1978, a resolution was passed to establish the Arab Institute for Training. In 1979, the institute was renamed as the Arab Center for Social Defense Studies. Following this, during the third conference of the Arab Interior Ministers Council in Taif in 1980, a decision was made to rename the center as the Arab Center for Security Studies and Training.

Thanks to the gracious initiative of the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the generous patronage of its leadership, the University found its headquarters in Riyadh. From then until now, under the prosperous era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince - may Allah protect them - the University has received unlimited financial and moral support. Furthermore, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the University, has provided constant oversight, alongside Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Arab Interior Ministers.

During the fourteenth session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, convened in Tunis in 1997, the Arab Center for Security Studies and Training underwent a name change to "Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences”. The academy experienced various developmental phases, transitioning from institutes to colleges. This evolution prompted a reassessment of the academy's name to align with these advancements. Consequently, in 2004, the Arab Interior Ministers Council issued a decision to rename the academy as "Naif Arab University for Security Sciences”.
